Introducing True North Inn, Restaurant and Guide Service opening for the new season March 5, 2009.

Effective January 1, 2009, a newly formed company “True North Inn”, owned and operated by Jeff Colombo began its operations.

Jeff’s interest in ownership of the Inn stems from his outdoor lifestyle and past experience in coordination of recreational events in his former hometown of Holly, Michigan. When he learned of this opportunity, he researched the financial and operational aspects of the business and decided to relocate to the Inn to take ownership and oversee operations and services.

The new website and email are still under construction but will be up and running soon.  During the transition period please continue use of this site and the info@truenorthoutfitters.com to contact True North Inn.  Also, there is a new phone number:  606-668-3745.

True North Inn, Restaurant and Guide Service has some exciting changes already in the works and is looking forward to the upcoming season.  Jeff has revised restaurant menu, keeping some of the old favorites and adding new and exciting dishes using meats and produce obtained from local growers.

The revamped business plan will provide guests with the option of a la Carte or package (bundled) options:

Ø       Hostel/Inn Accommodations – Increased capacity in the main cabin

Ø       Restaurant – Expanded seating capacity and extended restaurant service hours

Ø       Outdoor Services – Guiding including climbing, rappelling and outdoor adventure packages

Ø       Local shuttle service to trailheads

Ø       Complimentary Wi-Fi

Ø       Non-Guest showers and laundry service available

Although the season has not officially begun at True North Inn, the outpouring of encouragement from neighbors as well as visitors from all over has been exciting.  Mr. Colombo has been grateful to friends, neighbors and customers for their ideas and patience during this time of transition.  The True North Inn staff extends a warm welcome to anyone who would like to stop by and take a look at the new place.

Red River Gorge – Fed 18, 2009 – True North Outdoor Wilderness School, LLC (aka True North Outfitters and The Gorge Bistro) - closes one era and celebrates the future.

True North Outfitters will still continue to be owned and operated by Jeff Kennedy and will focus solely on business consultation, corporate team development, and international expeditions. Jeff Kennedy admits that he will miss the day-to-day operations and the constant contact with the large number of friends who frequently visited True North Outfitters. However, he felt that it was the right time to separate the services. Jeff Kennedy assessed, “After ten years, the company was ready for a change.  It had grown to a point where it could justify and support two separate management teams. I’m looking forward to having time once again to actually climb and enjoy the Gorge as a guest.”  By mid-2009, Jeff Kennedy plans to launch a new marketing campaign associated with corporate team development. “I’m proud of everything True North has accomplished over the past years.  We became the largest guide service in the Eastern part of the United States, introducing thousands of individuals to the fundamentals and art associated with climbing.   We founded “The Fig” which is a well known adventure race and qualifier for the USARA nationals, now a successful stand alone entity owned and managed by Stephanie Ross. We did the same with the Tour the Red River Gorge bicycle race which brings hundreds of racers into the area each year to compete on one of the hardest and best road courses in the United States. Last year the race was a qualifier for the US Olympic team. But, most of all, I’m proud on the large numbers of friends we made.”
