Low
Impact Approach To Spending Time In The Wilderness
Stay on established
trails. Ddo not cut switchbacks, it causes erosion.
Stay in single file on existing meadow
trails and walk through (not around) muddy areas. You'll be helping
reduce the widening and multiplication of trails.
Tread lightly in trail-less
areas. Look
for routes on durable surfaces that minimize damage to vegetation.
Spread the hiking party out if the route
must go through a vegetated area with no trail rather than walking
single file. This is less likely to start erosion.
Properly dispose of human waste away from
water, trails, and campsites.
Use a camp stove instead of building a
fire.
Wash well away from camps and water
sources.
Leave flowers, rocks, and other natural
features undisturbed.
Keep wildlife healthy and self-reliant by
not feeding them. Leave pets at home.
Pack out all garbage and litter left by
others.
Walk lightly and speak quietly. Practice
the art of moving through the wilderness with as little noise as
possible.
I have read and understand the above information.
I will follow these guidelines while participating in the True North
