Nov. 8, 2008 - The Fig VI - Adventure Race

Race Description

True North Outfitters is pleased, once again, to bring adventure racing to eastern Kentucky 's splendid Daniel Boone National Forest and Natural Bridge State Park. This exciting and challenging 12-hour event, affectionately known as “the Fig VI” (after legendary US Forest Ranger in the Gorge, Don Fig), will be held this year on Saturday, November 8, 2008. The Gorge is a unique and scenic geological area designated and managed by the US Forest Service as a national natural landmark. The Gorge was sculpted by the Red River, Kentucky ’s first National Wild and Scenic River , and is home to over 100 natural stone arches and other geological features that make it a world-renowned climbing mecca. Over 60 miles of designated National Recreation Trails wind through the heavily wooded and rugged topography of this spectacular forest area, located adjacent to Natural Bridge State Resort Park

In addition to the area’s most scenic and unique natural features, the race route also highlights interesting historical landmarks, such as Nada Tunnel, a 900-foot tunnel used by a logging railroad in the early 1900’s that has a place on the National Historic Register. Pre-race briefing with a hearty, homestyle dinner will take place Friday night. The race will begin Saturday morning at 6 a.m. with teams taking off on an adventure over the Red River and through the woods, covering approximately 60 miles of terrain. See race notes for additional details
